Marino and Jessica were originally wed on 11 November 2015 in Nikao, Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

Unlike most couples, the two separated after the wedding – Marino went back to New Zealand and Jessica went back to Hawaii. Because of the USA’s immigration policies, Marino was not yet allowed to permanently enter the US. Their first year of marriage was spent apart, and they waited in anticipation for Marino’s immigration approval.

Exactly one year to the date of their original wedding, Marino and Jessica held their Reaffirmation of Vows ceremony on O’ahu, Hawai`i – finally reunited, and reciting their original vows in the presence of their family and friends from New Zealand, Hawaii, and California.

Four days after the event, Jessica and Marino hopped on plane to make their final immigration interview at the US Embassy and Consulate General in Auckland, New Zealand. At that appointment, Marino was official!

The bride had a cascading bouquet created with all white flowers: roses, tulips, spray roses, white tulip anthuriums, orchids, hydrangea, blushing bride protea, peonies and tuberose. The eight bridesmaids and Maid of Honour also had white bouquets but with pops of blue.

Four wooden columns at the ceremony were topped with sprays of fresh white and blue flowers that spilled down the side.

Two white leis were placed on empty chairs at the ceremony to represent and remember those who weren’t able to join the couple.

White rose petals were scattered down the aisle.

At the reception, tropical flowers were placed in the centre of each table, accented with fresh fruits and complemented by candlelight. The place settings were further enhanced with square rattan chargers and olive linen napkins.

EXTRA DETAILS: The Korowai (feather cloak) was flown in from New Zealand by Nikora Edwards and Hikairo Moorehead. The Whale Bone Fish Hook was flown in from Australia from Uncle George Taiatini. The Hawaiian Maile Lei was from Steven Boyle Design in Hawai`i.

Real Wedding : Jessica & MarinoSOMETHING OLD …

OLD: Traditional coins from the Philippines from Uncle Jim.

NEW: Bouquet locket with photographs of maternal and paternal grandmothers from Maid of Honor, Kelsey Canalin.

BORROWED: Diamond bracelet from Bride’s mother, Sue Canalin.

BLUE: Fabric of Bride’s paternal grandmother’s traditional Filipino barang.

Bright and fun lights were used to enhance the “Havana nights” look and theme. The designer used wall washes as well as a wash over the event space, including gobo projections and break up patterns. As the night continued, the lights changed to flashing and pulsing lights to bring the club look to the party.

A round, two-tiered white fondant cake, hand-painted ombre blue to white. The top tier flavour was Yellow Butter cake with Lilikoi cream filling. The bottom tier was Devil’s Food with Cookies N Cream. The dessert table also included matching cake pops dipped in white chocolate and individual cake shooters.

The service was in Syriac, Enlgish and Arabic so that the traditional customs were retained. The homily was in English so that everyone could understand. During the signing of the marriage agreement, a friend of the couple sang Ave Maria. Their parish priest also allowed them to exchange vows and rings in English.

What was an invite to a rugby game at North Harbour Stadium turned special. The place was empty. As they stepped onto the field, the lights all turned on and the question”will you marry me” appeared on the big screen, followed by a slide show of photos of the couple’s life together. Family and friends were hiding in the Corporate Boxes!

Roses Florist,

The proposal happened on our 4 year anniversaryreal wedding
in Orewa. We had planned the weekend away at a beachfront resort. The weather turned bad so we spent the night in with wine and an antipasto platter. I had run a bath when Nigel got down on one knee, bringing me to tears, screaming YES!

Mum Lesley, dad Kelvin, sister Sian and brother Leighton. My wonderful nanna Doreen. My wonderful bridesmaids Sarah, Kelly Andrea did a fantastic job

Their vows were very short and sweet. The bride memorised hers to make them easier to remember; this proved a success on the day. Their celebrant read out a little story each of them had sent to him about each other.

The bride did all the decorating and sourced the décor herself, having table runners & chair sashes made to fit the furniture at the venue. The flower boxes were made by her brother and she purchased 40 candles for mood lighting as night set in. There were flowers galore – hydrangea, daisy, several types of roses, and toi toi. They hung from the ceiling, covered two arches, ran down the aisle, were on tables both inside and outside; they hung on the wall behing the bridal table, were worn by the bride in her hair and could be spotted on the cake.

Walking down the aisle with my parents and seeing my husband-to-be with ears in his eyes!

I had wanted a garden wedding but, due to the weather on the day, the wedding had to take place in the chapel. Renee, the Co real weddingOrdinator at Auckland’s Waitakere Estate, organised everything perfectly. After the ceremony Renee surprised my husband and I by having the guests shower rose petals on us. They were supposed to be used as a red carpet when walking down the aisle in the garden. Everything else went as planned.

Don’t stress if something hasn’t come out the way it was planned. It will be frustrating in the beginning and heart-breaking, but everything will fall into place. You can end up with something you hadn’t even thought about. The little hiccups will turn out to be a memory for the rest of your life. Good or bad, it’s something you can laugh with your family about.

Take in as much as you can on the day and just enjoy. Don’t worry about the things that can go wrong. Just sit back, relax and enjoy your day.

Real Wedding: Miky & BenThe couple opted for a modern and retro blend for the theme of their wedding, tying in pastel colours. Fairy lights behind the bridal table and crystal candelabras added warmth and a soft glow. They invited 150 to the ceremony and 80 to the reception.

“The weather for the outdoor ceremony was perfect allowing everyone a sunny and gorgeous view of the vines in full blossom. We had beautiful white lanterns hanging from a large tree near the back of the aisle which added the extra perfect detail to go with the bride’s arrival.”

“After the ceremony, everyone had a glass of bubbles and it was awesome mixing and mingling with friends and family who we were so happy we could share the day with. We wanted the afternoon of fun and laughter to last forever.”

Miky and Ben spent a week in Rarotonga, adventuring around the island, trying new foods and learning a lot about the culture. They also flew over to Aitutaki where they undertook a cruise, did some snorkelling and enjoyed a fresh fish lunch onboard. “We felt like we were in a dream spending the entire day in the sun, we couldn’t get enough of it.”

The whole day was amazing but one of the most memorable moments was our first dance. We chose Flight Of The Conchords’ The Most…..Beautiful Girl (in the room). We wanted to make everyone laugh as well as keep the Kiwiana alive as I was so far from home. We are a very chilled out couple and our whole day was like a line up of a Lucille Ball Show with lots of laughter.

A special meeting on the beach at Omaha, a meeting before the wedding, with nobody around, just the bride and groom seeing each other for the first time on their big day.

Real Wedding: Jillian & Scott“On such a beautiful day, a slight breeze, not a cloud in the sky and Little Barrier in the background … the emotions were incredibly powerful. This was our time to reflect on things and to appreciate each other with no one looking, or nobody else to please … just us … just brilliant.”

Every speech was so special – not too long, not too short – but really powerful. The Groom’s daughter Jessica, aged 9, telling everybody why her stepmother was so special and why she wanted her Daddy to marry Jillian. She brought tears to the eyes of grown men, and it was all spoken straight from the heart.

The couple wrote their own vows which will always be special to them.

Wanting a laid back but classy wedding, the couple chose a colour palette of light blue and natural hues, with many of the décor items, the stationery, flower arrangements, draping, screens, bunting and favours being a labour of love by family and close friends. The cake was made by the bride’s mum and iced by Carmen’s Cakes.

The couple’s love of good food and drink, and given the groom’s line of work, saw three of NZ’s best cocktail bartenders preparing delicious mixed drinks for the guests. They matched their Mediterranean style food with Sangria Rosso on the dinner tables, then= opened up the bar with rum and tequila punches after the first dance.
