After all, do you really want to look back on your wedding photos in, say, five or ten years time, and think “Oh hell, did I really wear that?” or “WOW, look at those whacky centrepieces!”.

That said, it does pay to know what’s likely to be “hot” for the upcoming season. We’ve put our thinking caps on and done the hard yards for you.

Weddings follow fashion

As with makeup and high street fashion, weddings are showing a huge amount of metallic for 2016. From gold and silver through the various tinges of bronze, copper and pewter. Metallics can be used in one tone, say gold, or blended together to add more vibrancy. Team metallics with crisp white linen, and tons of candles to reflect the shimmer, and you’re set for a winner! Some experts are predicting a wane of silver but, to be honest, we’ve been hearing that for years and it’s never happened! And don’t forget to carry the metallic theme through to your invites!

A Tipple or Two

While many will still opt for beer, wine and the odd champagne cork popping for the toasts, the hot trend for 2016 is cocktails! Get together with a mixologist (ask at your local liquor store or your favourite bar) and whip up a signature cocktail. You could even have one for the girls and one for the boys. If you and your guests are all avid beer drinkers, think about a beer garden. And who says you can’t have a Mexican themed tequila tent .. or what about a martini bar!

Food Glorious Food

We generally all know someone who doesn’t eat gluten, someone who shies off dairy, perhaps a vegan or two. With today’s dietary restrictions, it’s worth adding a line to your RSVP cards to include any no-no’s so that you don’t serve up hearty French pies to a room full of gluten intolerants. Perhaps a good mix of cuisine offerings is what’s called for in the end.

Golden Schnitzels

Serves 2 – 4
Cooking time 35 minutes

  • Ingredients:
  • 2 Fry’s Golden Crumbed Schnitzels
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 2 small sized butternut, halves
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1½ cup of mixed vegetables, diced (sweetcorn, carrots, peppers, peas and green beans)
  • Pinch of rosemary
  • 1 tbsp. margarine
  • A handful of almonds, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. of warmed honey (or agave syrup)
  • ½ tsp. of cinnamon
  • Handful of grated cheese (optional)
  • Coriander to garnish


Golden SchnitzelsButternut

Cut butternut into halves, lengthways and remove pips and scoop out the flesh. Place the halves, cut sides facing upwards, and flesh into an ovenproof dish. Season with salt and black pepper and cook in oven until soft.


Cook Fry’s Schnitzels in oil until golden brown (can be baked in an oven) or by following instructions on the pack.  Allow schnitzels to cool down and then cut into strips and set aside. Prepare mixed vegetables (can be fried or boiled as per preference) and season with rosemary and salt.

In a large bowl, mix schnitzels, mixed vegetables, margarine and almonds. When the butternut is ready, allow it to cool down and brush the hollows with honey and cinnamon and add in the stuffing. Add a layer of cheese over the stuffing and garnish with coriander.
