Metamucil is a daily fibre supplement which contains 100% natural psyllium, a super-fibre with multiple health benefits like helping you feel lighter and more active.

Research shows that high fibre diets are associated with reduced risk of several serious chronic diseases. Fibre is an important dietary requirement which contributes towards digestive health however, many people don’t get the recommended 25-30 grams of fibre per day.

Start Your Day with a Daily Glass of SuperThe psyllium found in Metamucil helps to bridge the fibre gap and is easy to incorporate your daily diet. Simply mix 1.5 teaspoons into 250 ml of water and drink straight away, one to three times per day, or mix into your favourite smoothie recipe.

When mixed with water, the psyllium forms a viscous gel which works to trap bile acids, some cholesterol and waste from the small intestines and helps the body’s natural toxin removal process via its cleansing effect.

In addition to helping transform how you feel from the inside, Metamucil also helps to maintain regularity during pregnancy and can help lower your cholesterol.

Metamucil (RRP from $18.39 for 48 doses)comes in a range of flavours and variants including Wild Berry, Orange, Lemon-Lime or Natural and is available from grocery and pharmacy stores nationwide.

Coming off The Pill?

Coming off The Pill?

Are you thinking about coming off The Pill? So many women do soon after their wedding and honeymoon is behind them. It’s the next step!

Realistically, you may have been on The Pill since you were a young teenager. Therefore you may not remember, or even be aware of just how your body actually works ‘down there’!

Usually, women will go back on The Pill if they don’t know what to expect during this time. They’ll convince themselves that they were ‘better off’ for taking it i.e. if things don’t go according to plan maybe they are experiencing acne, hair loss, anxiety, or their period doesn’t come back quickly).

In this blog-post, registered Naturopath, medical herbalist and holistic nutritionist, Lisa Fitzgibbon, helps to explain what you can expect to occur when you come off The Pill.

CELLULITE THERAPY

FOR MOST WOMEN, CELLULITE IS THE BANE OF OUR EXISTENCE. NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE DIET OR EXERCISE, THAT ORANGE PEEL EFFECT JUST WON’T GO AWAY!

Firstly, let’s look at what cellulite is. More often than not, it results from both a build up of fat in the fat cells under the skin with water retention around those cells. As the fat cells enlarge, the little envelopes containing them change shape, pulling on their anchor points where they attach to the skin. In a perpetuating cycle, the blood circulation is then slowed down, causing stagnation of metabolic waste.

Sadly, the fat cells of men and women react to fat increases differently, which is why men don’t often get cellulite! Our skin is partitioned vertically by the fibrous connective tissue and the fat is pushed upwards into bulges. A man’s skin is thicker (yes, it’s true!) and is structured into cross-hatched compartments, thus there’s no deformation with any fat increase.

Enter Lipomassage™ … a complete non-invasive and painless treatment plan that treats cellulite, contours and firms. Think of it as a very specialised massage.

Sure, proper nutrition and a good exercise program are important, but there are always areas of the body that are resistant, like cellulite! Lipomassage will also help with unsightly saddlebags, that tummy roll that just won’t go away and large thighs.

You can target whichever area of your body bugs you the most. If you want results that come quickly, and last, you really need to check out Lipomassage!

Tanning: Get your glow on – Safely!

Tanning: Get your glow on – Safely!

Tanning: Get your glow on - Safely!Getting your glow on, safely

We all know a fake tan is safer than a natural tan, but do we really know how safe a fake tan is?

With every bride wanting to look their very best, most will go all out having make-up, nails, facials, eyelash extensions and of course a glowing spray tan. Some will try to get out in the sunshine during summer to achieve that glow, but you risk the dreaded strap marks and sun burn … and, let’s face it, we don’t often have the time. A spray tan can be a great investment in achieving fresh and radiant skin that sports a healthy glow.

However, some spray tans do still contain DHA. This is a nasty chemical that helps your tan stay on longer. When this is present in a tanning solution or contains any chemicals at all, the tan is NOT organic. Organic tanning is the safest way to tan. Although the tan may not last as long, if timed correctly, and with preparation, it is a great option before the big day. Using an organic tan without DHA is also a fail safe way of not staining your dress, a common concern for most brides. The organic tanning solution simply washes away should there be any rub off. A quick dry clean and a dress will be good as new.

My strongest piece of advice is that you only get your spray tan by a qualified spray tanner and someone who has experience. This will ensure a flawless result when the correct solution is applied. A strong barrier cream can be applied to hands, fingers, nails, feet and toes to ensure these don’t grab the tan as much. When your beautiful new ring and manicured fingers are going to be on show, this is an important step to follow.

Tanning: Get your glow on - Safely! So remember, when choosing your spray tan:

1. Check what solution they use – is it organic?

2. Have a trial, perhaps for your hens, if at all unsure.

3. Recommendations of bridal tans that have looked great are like gold.

4. Take extra care of hands, wrists and fingers when tanning before the big day.

5. Preparing the skin for a tan can ensure it looks streak free and flawless.

Top Waxing Tips

Top Waxing Tips

Top Waxing TipsTOP TIPS FOR AT-HOME WAXING

DO: Exfoliate before you wax. Exfoliating beforehand will get rid of dead skin cells ensuring you get the best result first application.

DO: Sprinkle baby powder lightly on underarm areas about to be waxed and it’ll absorb any excess moisture, so the wax and strip can adhere properly.

DO: Roll on wax in the direction of hair growth. After rolling on the wax, place the strip over the wax and press it down firmly using strokes in the same direction as hair growth. Leave strips on for a few seconds to set.

DO: Hold your skin taut and quickly pull strips off in the opposite direction to hair growth. Stay close and parallel to the skin – don’t lift the strip up in the air.

DON’T: Wax on sunburn – ouch!

DON’T: Draw out pulling off the strips. It may be more painful and the results may be patchy.

DON’T: Have hot showers/baths/fake tan etc for at least 24 hours after you wax.

Best used for arms and legs, Veet EasyWax is an innovative self-heating wax applicator, designed so that you just plug it in and your wax will warm to the right temperature every time. The roll-on tip means you’ll be deadly accurate and won’t have to worry about dripping hot wax everywhere. Reusable strips are included to remove the wax.

Picture Perfect Wedding Tans

Picture Perfect Wedding Tans

Picture Perfect Wedding TansKate Moss always looks exquisite and that’s in part thanks to her gorgeous St. Tropez tan. Here are some tricks to help you achieve a great look for your special day.

Start with St.Tropex’s new Self Tan Dark Range that contains the ground-breaking and patented Vegetan Premium, designed to mimic the skin’s natural melanin, thereby ensuring the most natural, dark tan.

The Self Tan Dark Mousse is easy to apply. There’s also a Lotion and the foolproof, super-fine Dark Spray.

Start by massaging your body in circular motions using St. Tropez Optimiser Body Polish while bathing, concentrating on tricky areas like elbows, knees and feet. It will help to gently remove tired skin cells, creating a smooth, even surface that absorbs tanning products evenly upon application.

Another tip is to apply the Tan Optimiser Body Polish to dry skin to give it an instant lift.

Well –nourished, deeply moisturised skin is the top tip for a longer lasting natural looking tan. Containing organic aloe vera, glycerin, vitamin E, grape seed and sunflower oils, the Tan Optimiser Body Moisturiser leaves skin soft and smooth ensuring an even, longer lasting colour and glow. Skin is softly scented with a subtle yet refreshingly exhilarating fragrance that is unique to St.Tropez. Use as a daily hydrator to keep skin sleek and supple and, by providing instant hydration to dry areas, it allows your self-tan to absorb easily all over.

The black mitt with nude base has a water-resistant barrier to ensure fingers remain unstained and helps provide even and smooth results.

Chemicals in cosmetics absorb into body in 26 seconds

Chemicals in cosmetics absorb into body in 26 seconds

Start your Spring Equinox detox with Inika Cosmetics

On average, it takes only 26 seconds to absorb chemicals found in cosmetics into the bloodstream[1].

U.S researchers identified 10,500 industrial chemicals used as cosmetics ingredients, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxics, endocrine disruptors, plasticizers, degreasers and surfactants[2].

Spring is the most popular time for people to undertake a detoxification says natural nutritional therapist, Bridget Lem.

“The Spring Equinox is the time for rejuvenation and new life and is a natural time for us to achieve an optimal cleanse with our bodies,” says Mrs Lem. “Detoxing is not only about your digestive system, it’s about cleansing your overall being.

“Given the skin is our largest organ, it makes sense to detox what we are putting on our skin too,” she says.

Inika Cosmetics was awarded one of the highest safety ratings in the world by the Environmental Working Group. All Inika Cosmetics products are certified organic and free of harmful chemicals and Inika Cosmetics CEO Tony Rechtman believes that’s why it’s the best brand to have on your skin 12 hours a day, 5 days a week.

“For those wanting to detox their skin but still wanting to wear makeup Inika is the perfect choice,” says Mr Rechtman.

Originally created by founder Miranda Bond who suffered from endometriosis and infertility, Inika enabled Miranda to detoxify her cosmetics and life.

Three months following her new chemical free regime, Miranda fell pregnant. “Derived of rock and minerals Inika allows for clean living, starting with your skin and it also prevents any possible, and unknown, harm coming from the 21.9 grams of lipstick women ingest per year”, says Tony.

The most common harmful chemical found in everyday cosmetics is the dreaded Bismuth Oxychrloide, – an ugly filler that is chemically connected to arsenic. “You could have a damaging heavy metal element on your face right now without knowing it,” says Mr Rechtman. “People who find their skin to be constantly irritated, itchy, bumpy with clogged pores, whiteheads and extreme blackhead problems are using product that contain Bismuth Oxychloride. In cosmetics, Bismuth is used as a pearlising agent giving a high shine with an unnatural glow that causes foundations to slide off the face if not buffered into the pores,” says Mr Rechtman.
